CapitaLand Investment Limited (CLI) Japan was established in 2000 as a Japanese subsidiary of CapitaLand Limited (currently reorganised under CLI). Subsequently in 2002, Ascott Japan was established, which operates the lodging business. CapitaLand began investing in Japan office assets in 2007 and logistics facility assets in 2020.
CLI Japan currently manages over 70 properties in a wide range of asset classes, including offices, logistics, lodging (hotels, serviced residences, social living, rental apartments, and student accommodations), and self-storages in nine cities across Japan – Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Kobe, and Sapporo.
CLI operates in 270 cities across 45 countries. Our approximately 10,000 employees and more than 360 investment and asset management professionals provide personalised service to our customers through our global network with the support of a worldwide operations team.
In March 2025, CLI completed the acquisition of a 40% stake in SC Capital Partners Group (SCCP) and is expected to acquire the remaining stake in SCCP in phases over the next five years, subject to the fulfilment of conditions. CLI will also invest strategic capital to support SCCP’s fund strategies.
With SCCP’s significant portfolio in Japan, the acquisition has boosted CLI’s presence in Japan, one of CLI’s focus markets. CLI has also expanded its listed funds management platform to Japan through SCCP’s stake in Japan Hotel REIT. CLI’s and SCCP’s combined listed and private funds management platform has strengthened CLI’s network and capabilities across key Asia Pacific markets including Japan.
